IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Dante
Canon: Devil May Cry
OU/AU/OC: OU
Canon Point: Post Devil May Cry 4
History: The second game never happened
Personality: There is one immediately noticeable trait of Dante’s: he’s very much full of himself. His cockiness stems from his confidence as a demon hunter and from his unrivalled sense of style. One could say that Dante is prideful or even egotistical, however those words imply that he’s a boaster with no talent. Let it be known that that statement is entirely untrue; Dante has a very long history of battling demons and corrupted humans, battles that not only demonstrate his power as a half-demon and son of the legendary dark knight, Sparda, but the ever present sense of showing off his talent to others via unethical, but stylish techniques. That said, Dante also has a sense of playfulness about him; despite all of his encounters with fearsome demons and intimidating situations, the demon hunter very rarely takes things seriously. He’s more for exchanging witty dialogue and toying with his enemies before actually fighting them.

But despite his constant laid-back and “play it cool” demeanor, Dante is very much capable of emotions and loyalty to others. The greatest example of this would likely be the ending to Devil May Cry 3 where he ultimately defeats his brother, Vergil, in combat and he chooses to stay in the demon world as opposed to return to the human world. He and Dante were constantly at each other’s throats and fighting each other, but after watching his brother fall further into the demon world and preventing Dante from saving him, Dante cried over the loss of his brother. Dante has a history of befriending those he has less then preferable encounters with; whether it’s his charm or his inability to hold a grudge, Dante can look past the harm others have caused him and make allies out of them. Trish, for example, was a demon created in the image of Dante’s mother to lure him into a trap by posing as a client. After their inevitable battle, Trish chose to give up her life to spare his and after the true villain was defeated, she partnered up with Dante and worked with him in his office, appropriately titled "Devil May Cry."

Which brings up the next noteworthy aspect of Dante’s character: his strong sense of justice. Over the course of his career as a mercenary and demon hunter, he learned that the only way for a demon to reach their true power is to have the will to protect others, a very human trait that he respects. He’s also learned that humans can sometimes be worse than demons, what with ambitions that can get corrupted or as opposed to a typical demon’s functioning on instincts, humans function with full consciousness and awareness. Ironically, Dante refuses to kill a human under any circumstances, likely because they have a level of potential that demons rarely possess. Trish, for example, was a demon who demonstrated human traits by protecting Dante, letting him forgive her betrayal and not see her as an enemy.

On the flipside, humans who surrender their humanity for demonic power are more than liable to meet their end by Dante’s hands. Characters like Arkham (Devil May Cry 3) and Agnus (Devil May Cry 4) relinquished their humanity for power and were eventually killed off by Dante. While it may sound complicated, it essentially boils down to Dante viewing the duality of human behavior as a device to help him judge whether someone can be saved from their torment and ultimately spared, or if they should be killed so they can’t harm any other people.

It should also be noted that Dante can sometimes be supportive to a fault. As a mercenary, he gets all sorts of jobs offered to him and tends to pass on those with high pay if he doesn’t want to do them, but he always takes on the ones that catch his interest (paranormal acts, demon hunting) regardless of how little the pay may be offered. He’ll even forget about the fees if the person is too poor to bring the fees upfront, which often leaves Dante in a financial rut. He’s usually in debt to someone, whether it’s his fellow demon hunters or the pizza place he loves ordering from; he’ll often try to gamble for the money, but it should be known that Dante has terrible luck and can’t really win things unless it’s some sort of fight.

Sometimes Dante can be gruff and might not always look reliable, but anyone who makes a friend out of him will have one hell of a drinking buddy or guardian figure. He tries not to judge by first interactions, but if he catches wind of evil activity, he’ll do everything he can to stop it, which may lead to him trying to crack a few skulls…or shoot ‘em; whatever works.
Strengths:
+ He’s a very talented fighter, proficient in martial arts, swordsmanship, marksmanship, acrobatics and a general mastery of all types of weaponry.
+ Being a half demon means he’s damn strong. Being the son of a really powerful demon means he’s even stronger. This means bolstered strength, agility, endurance, magic, all that jazz. He has a demon form that can be activated through a Devil Trigger, but he very rarely uses it.
+ Does being a Capcom character count? Because that should count for something.
+ Dante can’t overlook someone in need of help. Saving the day is what he does best.
+ He has a very stern view of right and wrong and can easily tell the difference between the two. He always tries to do the right thing.
+ He reaches a level of bravery that most humans can’t even ponder. Even during the worst of scenarios, he’ll face it with a smug smirk and a witty response.
Weaknesses:
- Since his playful personality is dominant most of the time, it may be hard to tell just how reliable he can be. Often times, it might make him come off as insensitive and stubborn.
- It’s possible to take advantage of Dante’s good nature. Being unable to turn away from someone in need means he often ends up walking into a trap.
- He’s terrible with money management. Seriously, the man orders pizza everyday and lets too many people get by without paying him for his work.
- He’s very prone to getting into fights and all sorts of trouble. Because he sometimes provokes others, he really brings it upon himself sometimes.

Possessions:
-Rebellion
-Ebony and Ivory
-Agni and Rudra -> Swapped for Pandora
-Nevan
-And of course, his sexy red coat.
Pony/Animal Type: A dragon. Because you want to see this happen as much as I do.

But seriously, Dante has always been pretty different from other people. He doesn't exactly isolate himself from them; far from it. He's just naturally marked off as an outsider due to his demonic heritage and line of work, so being a dragon that can chill just outside of Ponyville seems like a legitimate thing for him. He gets to be nearby without getting caught in the middle...just how he likes it.

That and I think being a dragon is the perfect way to represent just how strong he is. He doesn't have the godlike qualities to make him an alicorn, but he's far stronger than the average demon. That and he'd prefer a cozy cave to live in over having people build shrines in his honor.

SAMPLES
First Person:
(Try not to get too concerned about the big dragon chilling right here, everyone; he’s cool.)

I prefer getting on all fours, to be a special thing, you know? Like, when you score with a hot chick or you get really drunk at the zoo, but this…not really something I’ve done before. And I’ve done a lot.

(And just to be sure, he’s checking himself out. For the umpteenth time.)

…Pretty sure this makes it okay, though. I sleep on the floor more than I do on a bed, so this really isn’t that much different. Least I won’t be confused for a bum anymore.

(No Dante, you’re still a bum.)

Normally I don’t ask for help, but I went from a devilishly handsome human to a devilishly handsome dragon, so, uhh…where’s a guy supposed to get a drink around here? And I don’t mean any fruity shit, either; I’m talkin’ hard liquor. You know, some Jack Daniel’s. Ponies have that, right?
Third Person:
Aside from being a new species, a lot taller and in a new world, Dante didn’t seem to worry about this at all. In fact, it felt a lot like home to him; he was still right in the middle of all of this supernatural stuff and he was probably the biggest badass in the area. Hell, he even had his own cave to live in. Sure, it wasn’t his office, but both locations were as clean as the other. It doesn’t say much about his cleanliness, but Dante’s not exactly known for being tidy. At least being a dragon could give him an excuse to not have to shower as often…

From the looks of things, he’d have one of the worst problems from home follow him here: boredom. As exciting as his life was, Dante often sat around doing nothing while waiting for the next mission to come to him. Even back home, clients had to call him and give him something to do. This place didn’t have phones, but the scrolls seemed to do the trick well enough. Still, people would have to approach him if he wanted work.

The problem is: people are more afraid of him here than they were at home. He can deal with that; he knows he scares people off with his strength, but at least he looked human. This was pretty much making his form match his power. It’s a disappointment, really; he liked taking the big guys down without having to actually be one. Oh well; not like there’s anything he can do about that now. If his laziness was a sign of anything, it’s a sign of his adaptability. Hell, a cave floor was no less comfortable than his office chair; the only luxury he’d miss was food, particularly pizza and alcohol. Even if ponies made that stuff, they didn’t make them dragon sized, did they?

…Then again, with how often they seemed to mess around with magic, it seemed like anything was possible. Even if it wasn’t, he can just bitch about it until something more important happens.
